Canoeing on the Salmon River
August 19, 2008 1:17 pm HomeIdaho is known for a beautiful and varied landscape that is just full of wilderness adventure waiting to be had. Canoeing on the Salmon River, or The River of No Return as Lewis and Clark dubbed it, is one of the prime spots for adventure in the state. It is an extremely popular place to visit for those who love to canoe and camp. Two sections of the river are National Scenic and Wild Rivers, which means they are protected and still very wild. Not very far from a launch point at the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, is the second largest canyon in the nation – and you can actually travel through it. Because animals use the river as a source of fresh water, it is quite common to see many different species of animals on your trip. Some of the animals that you might get to see while on your canoe trip include moose, bear, deer, and even wolves. You can find many different places along the river where you can launch your canoe, but you must be sure to have all of the proper permits you need. This is one of the best places in the country to get away from the modern world.
