The case of commercial fishing is no exception: in order to keep commercial seafood harvest levels within reasonable limits, it’s crucial to have authoritative and expeditious structures in place which can shape policy without excessive delays and without having to rely on much more than the consensus of respected groups of scientists and sustainable fishing advocacy groups. In this regard, the world’s fisheries and local, regional and national governments could stand to learn a lot from the Alaskan model.
